Local Outreach

Seeking the Peace of the City

When we serve our neighbors with sympathy and compassion and seek to bring about the things that God desires for our city, we reveal the reality of God’s Kingdom reign among us. We battle injustices because we believe that it grieves God’s heart when people are treated unfairly. We feed the hungry because Christ identified himself with those who are hungry and thirsty. We work to break the cycle of poverty so that our communities might understand the power of God to transform lives.

We invite you to serve God alongside us as we seek to bring peace and blessing to our neighbors.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Shalom Farms

Join us the third Saturday of the month at Shalom Farms - a local food access and community development ministry - as we help ensure everyone in our city has access to God's bounteous gift of nutritious produce. We'll be on the farm from 9:00-11:00 AM. Please RSVP to Nelson Reveley at nmr2uf@virginia.edu if you would like to join. Carpooling from the church parking lot at 8:00 am (and returning by noon) is possible if there is interest. Otherwise, you can meet us out on the farm at 9:00 am (1033 Rock Castle Rd, Goochland, VA 23063). The dates for 2016 are: March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17, and October 15.

Jobs for Life (STEP)

The STEP Jobs for Life program is a soft skills job training ministry that uses a biblically based curriculum, paired with a team of mentors, pastors, and business leaders, to help a group of students discover who they are, what gifts and interests they possess, and what roadblocks they face in achieving their goals. The program is running on Tuesday evenings, 6:00-8:30 pm, in Grace Covenant's fellowship hall from February 16 - June 7. If you would like to volunteer (help with set up, meals, childcare, business contacts) or simply sit in to learn more about the program, please join us and contact info@grace-covenant.org or (804) 359-2463. You can also learn more about Jobs for Life here
